This is what it looks like when you’ve been telling and retelling a story for several years, and you’re trying to find the right way to wrap it up.
From left to right, those screenshots were from March 28th, July 26th, and August 20th (all 2015) when we shot and re-shot some of my segments for the documentary. I thought these might especially interest those that we interviewed for the documentary, the ones that sat under the hot lights and endured my probing questions, and then wanted to turn the camera around and ask me some questions.
We are now at the “picture lock” stage, when almost everything is in place and we’re happy with the overall structure, but might make a few minor adjustments. It took longer than expected to get here, due to a baby joining the crew, relocating to Minneapolis, adding a few more interviews, the long search for more archival photos and videos, and then just life in general. I know it’s been longer than most people involved thought it would take, so we appreciate your patience as we finish it off.
The film is now at 86 minutes, and only a few people have seen it – test audiences, mostly with little or no previous knowledge of the overall story. We submitted it to quite a few film festivals, and are hoping that it will premiere at one of them in the spring. We will post to the site and send out another update when we have more information about possible screenings. We don’t have any future plans to screen it for participants or other people until we have a public screening.
It’s exciting to finally be coming down to the end of this process and we’re quite happy with how it turned out.
